About

My name is Jomama and I currently reside in St. Petersburg, Florida with a stuffed animal cockroach, an invisible dog named Mongo, and a handsome man I like to refer to here as “the Southerner.”  One day soon I hope to have a real pet cockroach and dog that get along just as well as my stand-ins, but for now the Southerner has exercised his right to veto these ideas.

In the past two years, I’ve lived in Atlanta, New Orleans,  Montana, and New Zealand, and enjoyed writing about all four.  My brother, J, is my best friend and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.  J refuses to come visit me because he is a CHEAP-O so I make frequent trips to Atlanta throughout the year.  Exactly how I feel about my little bro can be found here.

I am half-Venezuelan and half-American.  Both are important to me.  Do not refer to me as Mexican.  I will punch you in the face.  Not that I don’t love our centralized neighbors, but you are seriously offending Mexicans everywhere when you group me in the same category.  Once, someone actually said to me, “Of course you’re not Mexican! You’re white.”  It took a serious amount of effort not to punch her in the face.  This is my life.

I am also a frequent misuser of commas, semi-colons, colons, and the English language in general.  If you don’t like it: WHATEV.

I love food and beer,  especially tacos and Hefeweizen.  Sometimes, I like to write about the food I eat.  But don’t take my word for it, I can’t cook and I drink like a fish so my memory of what the food tasted like can be somewhat inaccurate.  In addition to eating and drinking, I like to learn the definitions of big words and use them indefatigably.  I also like sailing, flamenco dancing, fly-fishing, pretending to quit smoking, and finger puppets.
